Details: SUMMARY: Chlorine residual complaint investigation. DETAILS: On 5/31/2006, I received a complaint forwarded from Mary at the Lane County Environmental Health Program regarding chlorine levels being too high at the Eugene Mobile Village. The complainant said there was often a heavy smell and taste of chlorine in the water and that it burned his skin when bathing. I first checked sdwis and found chlorine levels reported as high as 3.0 mg/L. I visited the site and checked chlorine in 3 different locations on 6/5/2006. At that time, the chlorine ranged between 0.9-1.1 mg/L. On 6/8/2006, I left a message and general information with the Mobile Village Office Manager for the operator Jay Sanger. While still in compliance with the MCL for free chlorine residual, I recommended the operator more closely watch the chlorine levels and keep them below 1.0 mg/L with a target of 0.5 mg/L in order to keep adequate disinfection, but lessen the complaints of taste and odor. ACTION NEEDED: Check chlorine records during sanitary survey.
