Details: SUMMARY: Increasing lead/copper tap sample results since switch to caustic soda. DETAILS: I met with Mitch Postle at the Hayden Bridge Plant today to review their latest lead/copper tap sample results collected 8/22/2006. The 90th percentile for lead is calculated at 0.0130 mg/L, which is a significant increase from the last round of samples collected 8/1/2003 with the 90th percentile for lead at 0.0050 mg/L. Currently, pH is maintained in the upper 7s and alkalinity is at 25 mg/L. Mitch is concerned that their switch from lime to caustic soda in 2003 (month prior to 8/03 sample collection) may have led to the increase in lead corrosion. While the system is still in compliance and considered to be optimized for corrosion control treatment, EWEB has contracted with HDR Inc. to complete a small scale version of a corrosion control study. HDRs Melinda Friedman will be conducting the research. Mitch will keep me posted on the findings of this project. ACTION NEEDED: None.
