Details:	SUMMARY: Coliform Bacteria Investigation DETAILS: BACKGROUND: PWS has Total Coliform samples collected in Oct and Nov 2006. MCL Violation in November. Mr Nunley conferred with Marion County for shock chlorination assistance and has done the procedure twice in November with the most recent on Nov 28. After the first shock chlorination samples were still Total Coliform. County HD referred system for assistance. ACTIONS PERFORMED: I visited system on 12.1.06 to investigate and evaluate the situation. After discussing his shock chlorination procedure with him it appears as if he has done it correctly. I measured a chlorine residual of 0.11 mgL in the system and recommended that he wait until Monday to collect any more samples so all the chlorine has been flushed out of the system. I discovered that both wells control do not have sample taps and that for many years samples collected by Waterlab have been identified as well head samples. Each well goes directly into a pressure tank and out into distribution system before they can be sampled. I recommended that he have sample taps installed at each well head to determine if ground water is coliform contaminated. I did not observe any obvious sanitary hazards that may influence the water quality, but since raw water can not be directly sampled at the well it is unknown what the source may be. Reviewed SWA report and incorporated info into tech report. Shallow, unconfined, alluvial aquifer. ACTION NEEDED: Prepare report with recommendations and a through explanation of routine and repeat sampling procedures as he did not fully understand the process. No father action after report completed, unless contacted by water system.
