| Details: | SUMMARY: Positive total coliform routine sample collected 10/4/07, three repeats all absent. DETAILS: Steve called the Portland office on 10/5/07 to report they received a positive total coliform routine sample result, collected 10/4/07. Three repeats were collected (one from initial positive location , one upstream and one downstream) on 10/5/2007. Steve reported on 10/10 that all three repeat samples were absent for coliform. Steve also said he contacted the manufacturers of the coli-alert test who confirmed that manganese levels in the drinking water could create a false-positive sample result. Steve said the sample was collected during the typical seasonal increase in manganese levels. In addition, Steve reported the free chlorine residual range at these sample locations was 0.14-0.17 mg/L, which is a bit low and could also contribute to a positive total coliform sample result. Steve said these samples were taken in a location that has historically shown low chlorine residuals. Steve reported the area affected was thoroughly flushed to increase the chlorine residuals.
