Details: SUMMARY: Reservoir Pump troubelshooting DETAILS: Contacted by Jim Nash. Pump is losing prime frequently and is getting progressively worse. No longer can operate in auto mode. I asked Jim to send us information on the pump model and the piping situation. I told him that it sounded like a net positive suction had problem. Jim eventually got the pump model number and sent in photos and description of the pump installation. With Pump model number, found pump O&M manual on internet. With photos and descriptions, calculated head loss in the suction piping and calculated net positive suction head available. When compared with net positive suction head required, it shows that head loss in the suction piping is excessive and NPSHr is not being met. Did calculations to show that changing suction piping from 2 in to 3 in should gain 5 ft of head. Suggested changing suction piping to 3 in along with some minor piping changes to avoid trapped air. Sent digital copy of O&M to Jim. ACTION NEEDED: Piping change should be easy and inexpensive. Told Jim to contact us again if problems continue and we will do a site visit to determine if other problems exist.
