Details: SUMMARY: Detection of Phthalate in latest sampling results DETAILS: In response to Water Quality Alert dated 7/17/2008, I contacted Paul Strader of the City of Powers to inform him that they had a detection of phthalate in a water sample taken in June. I notified Paul that they would need to take a confirmation sample as soon as possible, and depending on the outcome may be required to conduct further sampling. I asked that he send the results to Portland but also provide a copy to Springfield. I asked him if the City had made any recent changes to the plant that would explain a phthalate detection (eg, pvc piping changes) and he responded that the only changes had been minor changes with copper piping. I suggested he also contact their analytical laboratory to see if there were any other phthalate detections in this time period at other facilities to explore the possibility of sample container contamination. ACTION NEEDED: None at this time. Wait for copy of confirmation sample to determine further requirements.
