Details:	SUMMARY: Filter Media Evaluation DETAILS: The City of Westfir owns and operates a Surface Water System. The city supplies treated water to 320 residents through 120 connections. HBH was contacted by Mr Smith to provide assistance with performance issues in one of the Citys slow sand filter basin. The City has repeated difficulty with one of the two filter basins ever since the media was replaced. Finished water turbidity levels are below are below the MCL, however, the second filter takes considerably longer to ripen. In addition, the ultimate turbidity levels in the second filter are significantly higher than in the first filter. I picked up media samples from the operator and delivered to lab for testing. Evaluating results of lab analysis, comparing results with typical gradations for slow sand filters. ACTION NEEDED: Continue investigation of media quality.
