Details: | SUMMARY: Arsenic MCL treatment options DETAILS: Kevin Miller called to seek clarification on the e-mail I sent him on June 4th. I spoke to him about the possibility that their existing ion exchange process may be contributing to the high arsenic results if not maintained properly. If the Ion exchange systems fail, any arsenic that may have been captured on the resin at that time can be released at once causing a large concentration of arsenic in the treated water. I recommended that they sample for the raw untreated well water for total arsenic, arsenate, arsenite, pH, sulfates, TDS, iron, manganese, nitrate, nitrite, orthophosphate, silica, TOC, fluoride, and chloride. These results would help identify if the existing system is capable of capturing arsenic and assist with identifying additional treatment alternatives if needed. ACTION NEEDED: Sampling is to be completed for Thursday, June 11, 2009. The lab does not do the speciation, however, the species is most likely arsenic V (arsenate). |
