Details: SUMMARY: Boil Water Notice - Loss of Pressure DETAILS: Erica Jo Andersen was contacted on August 5, 2009 regarding a citizen inquiry about rumors that the town of Christmas Valley was under a boil water notice and that not all of the citizens have been notified. Erica stated that several boil water notices have been issued in the last couple of weeks. The 1st boil water notice was issued on July 24, 2009, for a mainline repair on a portion of the system. The boil water notice was in effect from July 25th to July 27th and was lifted after the coliform sample results tested absent for coliform, which indicated that the chlorination was effective. Erica then indicated that on Monday, August 3, 2009, the water system was hit by lightning, which knocked out power to their wells. A boil water notice was issued shortly after for a loss of pressure within the distribution system. Erica further explained that the area has been hit by lightning every day since Monday so she is going to continue to post the notice until the lightning ends and the water system can be properly chlorinated. Erica indicated that she would fax copies of the notices soon as she returns to her office. Jason Green of OAWU and the DRC for the water system was also contacted on August 5, 2009 and informed of the loss of pressure and boil water notice. He said that he would contact her and assist her with the distribution disinfection process. ACTION NEEDED: Send copies of the two Tier 1 Boil Water Notices to the Drinking Water Program. Continue to post the Boil Water Notice until the lightning ends and the water system has been properly chlorinated by maintaining an adequate chlorine residual throughout the system and coliform samples are negative.
