Details: SUMMARY: Total Coliform Positive Routine Sample DETAILS: Calven Shulda called to report that a routine sample collected 08/20/09 was total coliform positive. Calven said that the sample site was a hose bib that terminated just a few inches from the ground so he thought it was a false positive. I said he needed to take 4 repeat samples (1 upstream, 1 downstream, 1 at the original site and another elsewhere in the distribution system) to rule out a potential problem. Repeats taken were all absent of coliform bacteria. We discussed invalidating the sample, however, the rules do not allow it to be invalidated. I sent him some information on the criteria for invalidating samples and told him that 5 routines would need to be taken for September since the system takes less than 5 routine samples monthly ACTION NEEDED: System to take 5 routine samples in September and resume normal monthly sampling provided results are absent of coliform.
