Lead/Copper

Details: SUMMARY: Lead Action Level 90th%tile Exceedance DETAILS: Monroe exceeded the lead action level 90th percentile at 0.0216 mg/L with samples taken 6/15-6/22/09. I received the alert on 9/11/09. Monroe recently had their monitoring increased to every 6 months because of the new surface water source and these were their first results on that source. I spoke with Jeff Houchin on the phone on 9/14/09 and sent a letter on 9/18/09. I explained the potential reasons for invalidation of samples and let him know that if the exceedance is valid then the system needs to deliver public education to all customers and a notice of individual lead tap results to the residents that sampled their water-- collect water quality parameters-- collect lead and copper at the entry point-- and provide a written recommendation to me for treatment within 6 months of notification by lab of the exceedance, due on 12/22/09. ACTION NEEDED: Await letter of recommendation from Monroe, due by 12/22/09.
