Details:	SUMMARY: Water system Sanitary survey Follow up DETAILS: Marion County conducted a water system survey in late May and wanted Berne to modify the method of disinfection injection. Currently the chlorine is injected into the well casing near the bottom of the well. Bernie called HBH for assistance. SDWIS indicated that the chlorination is for residual maintenance purposes. The system also has elevated nitrate levels, although none over the MCL. I met with Bernie to inspect the set up and discuss methods of modifying the injection system. He can move the injection point to a location in the pump discharging piping that will provide ease of access and installation of the injector valve. I discussed the perils of direct well injection of chlorine. I also discussed raw water sampling to determine if the source has any coliform problems since he wasn’t sure why the chlorination was installed. According to Bernie, the well is approximately 50 feet deep and it is located in an area of on site sewage disposal and farming activity. I briefly discussed nitrate treatment systems with him. ACTION NEEDED: Send information on nitrate removal.
