Details:	SUMMARY: Unscheduled turbidity and chlorine residual checks DETAILS: Due to reporting of high turbidity values, an unscheduled site visit was conducted to measure turbidity and chlorine residual. Post-filter turbidity was measured at 1.1 NTU and chlorine residual at the first possible user was 1.4 mg/L. Turbidity in the settling tanks was high and apparently due to excess coagulant. The operator had been out of town on an extended trip, and the acting operator had not changed the coagulant dose, which apparently needed to be less than the current setting. The operator is not monitoring raw water turbidity and making concomitant adjustments to coagulant. Several continuous turbidimeters are now on-site which should improve responsiveness. ACTION NEEDED: Send letter stating operator needs to get online turbidimeters operational, calibrated, and use the observations to achieve acceptable turbidity values. Raw and filtered water should be monitored (four meters were observed on-site).
