Details: | SUMMARY: Request for regulatory assistance & beginning monthly source assessment monitoring DETAILS: Jessica has been in contact with drinking water regulators for over a month. In addition to the total coliform results, she expressed concerned about the very brown water, some bubbles coming out of the hose ("almost like soap suds") and even a rainbow sheen on the bubbles at times, and also observing algae-like scum that formed when boiling the water. A "well guy" said their particulate filter is quite outdated, probably full of build-up over the years (could have been in place for as long as 17 years). He also suspects the diaphragm is ruptured on 1 of the 2 pressure tanks. I explained that replacing existing system components is fine without Plan Review. We also discussed the proximity of the surface water to the well and possible GWUDI. She believes erosion is decreasing this distance over the years, and there is flooding each winter. DWS hydrogeologist Shawn Stevenson found the well seal inadequate, so system is starting monthly source assessment monitoring. Letter of notification sent today. ACTION NEEDED: Await results of monthly assessment samples. If several are TC positive, will move on to MPA testing to determine GWUDI status. I also emailed Jessica the most recent survey for this system, and information about O&M manuals, Emergency Response Plans, and Coliform Sampling Plans. She arrived last year as manager with no water system information to go on. |
