| Details: | SUMMARY: Intake pump failed, using "trash pump" in river DETAILS: Their two pumps - irrigation and DW - are located in a cement "vault" in the river floodplain. Both pumps stopped working the beginning of January, and with the vault lid now under water, they cannot get in there to look at the pumps till the water recedes in the spring. Glenna suspects the pumps have clogged up with too much sand. Until they can get to those pumps, they are placing a "trash pump" in the river once or twice per day to pump water up to the floc tanks, depending on usage. She is keeping the floc tanks and the reservoir full this way. The finished water turbidity is now higher than usual - 0.30-0.40 NTU, rather than 0.18-0.28 NTU. Chorine and PAC is still added to the floc tank, but the water pressure from the trash pump is uneven (can get clogged, need to restart), so she cannot control the dosage of these additives as much as usual. Chlorine residual remains the same as before, 1.5 - 2.0 mg/L (there is both pre- and post-filter chlorination). The system is not at risk of exceeding the turbidity MCL for January (95% of readings < 1.0 NTU), and as long as that and the chlorine/CT amounts are acceptable, there does not seem to be a need for a public notice. Nonetheless, Glenna distributed a Boil Notice on 1/3/17, and the residents are only using the system water for flushing and showering. ACTION NEEDED: Continue to monitor situation. Let Glenna know that a public notice is not necessary unless the finished water turbidity increases to 1.0 or the CT is not being met. Caution her to watch the chlorine level carefully, because the CT has often not met on the days when it drops below 1.5 mg/L. Clarify that even though their system is now classified as a non-EPA system, Glenna should still contact DWS when there is a mishap or question, not the County, because her system runs on surface water. | ||
