Details: SUMMARY: Received a CHEM Alert for Detectable 1,2-dichloroethane DETAILS: The firm is on annual testing for cis and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene. The firms water lab reported a detectable amount of 1,2-dichloroethane to the DWS. This chemical was apparently ordered by mistake in place of the cis-1,2-dichlorethylene that had been previously detected in synthetic organic chemical (SOC) panels required of non-transient non-community (NTNC) systems. 1,2-dichloroethane had never been detected in these panels. The detect on the regulatory sample will require quarterly monitoring for this chemical. It is possible that the frequency can be reduced to annual after consistent test results showing that the analyte is consistently and reliably not near the maximum contaminate level. Alternatively, if JLR takes another sample for 1,2-dichloroethane, as a confirmation sample, and receives a non-detect, it is possible that the average of the two will fall below the detectable limit of 0.0005ppm and the quarterly tests will not be required for 1,2-dichloroethane. The confirmation test must be performed within the same quarter as the original detect. The quarter ends September 30, 2017. ACTION NEEDED: The firm still requires their annual cis-1,2-dichloroethylene test. These tests should be performed in the first quarter of the year (Jan, Feb, Mar) since those were the months that previously returned the highest values for these SOCs. In the future please test in those months. The firm may also perform a confirmation test for 1,2-dichlorethane before September, 30th.Please forward the August 9th test orders and results directly to me in addition to Drinking Water Services.JGeck@oda.state.or.us
