Details: SUMMARY: CU Action Level Exceedance - 1st Round of L&C Monitoring DETAILS: I contacted Ms. Ochsner over the phone to discuss the results of the first 6-month round of lead and copper (L&C) tap monitoring. The 90th percentile sample for both L&C did not exceed the action levels – 1.30 mg/l for Copper and 0.0150 mg/l for Lead. However, out of the 5 samples, there was one collected at the Meadow kitchen faucet that showed a Copper concentration (1.46 mg/l) above the Action Level. Ms. Ochsner stated that the high level of Copper at this home may have been related to a filtration system installed by the home owner. I advised her to verify what type of treatment is installed at this home and to make sure whatever it is, it should be shut off during the next round of lead and copper monitoring. With the exception of this issue, Ms. Ochsner stated that they followed the sampling protocol and they used a calibrated pH meter to test pH level. She also noted that the 2 soda ash pumps in operation deliver a consistent dose of soda ash and they are well maintained. I suggested increasing their minimum pH from 7.2 to 7.4 and test for L&C again to see if the copper results are lower. Ms. Ochsner stated that they are not planning on modifying the dose of Soda Ash at this time. She will present the directive board with the option of having the circuit rider help them review their dosage. For the next round of L&C monitoring, they plan to add one more location to the initial five sampling locations selected for the previous monitoring. ACTION NEEDED: Notified DMCE to update the way Ms. Ochsner’s last name is spelled in SDWIS.
