Details: Over the weekend Shanikos Water System reservoir pumped itself dry and DRC is currently trying to figure out why and how it happened. They are working with Emergency Manager Sheridan McClellan to restore water to the city. A public notice has been issued to the citizens of Shaniko that has been distributed by hand and by telephone.

Update 02/08/2022:  Pump was installed today and will perform a pump test to determine the failure occurred, currently on standby until further notice.

Update 02/09/2022:  Scott Marrs emailed NCPHD informing us that the water has been restored to the system and has been flushed through all hydrants and will draw special samples today for BOX-R lab. Once samples are confirmed absent of coliforms, will notify NCPHD in order to lift the advisory.

Update 02/12/2022:  Scott emailed NCPHD about the special samples that were drawn after a loss of pressure event The samples came back TC+. Scott noticed that the chlorinator was down after receiving the results. He has restored the chlorinator, flushed the hydrants and is drawing another special sample.

Update 02/23/2022:  Talked with Scott today. The chlorinator is still having issues and is not working. I have suggested that they reach out to the Circuit Rider Program for onsite assistance. Once they have fixed the chlorinator, they will reach out to Box-R for special samples and keep NCPHD d.

Lifted 02/25/2022:  Boil Water Notice Lifted: The system has established pressure, and in the past few days been working to get the chlorinator to hold an steady residual throughout the system. They purchased a kit to check their residual 2x a week. Scott Mars spoke with the circuit rider program yesterday and they have been working to get the CL injection to a level that is higher than what they are currently maintaining. Box R Water provided lab results yesterday that shows absent coliform and demonstrated a chlorine residual in the system.
