Details: | SUMMARY: High salinity levels. DETAILS:I received a phone call from a Harbor resident concerned about the salinity levels in the water. The complainant stated that the salinity in the city water is affecting the health of senor residents. As an example, the complainant reported taking care of a senor resident with health issues that ended up improving once the patient replaced city water with bottled water. The complainant was also concerned about the use of fire retardants during the Chetco Fire and their impacts on public water systems. ACTIONS TAKEN: I contacted Harbor Water P.U.D and advised the operator to their online daily conductivity report. The operator stated that the salinity levels at the source are monitored on a daily bases, but they have not recently d the levels on the website because the salt content in the water is low and doesnt change much during this time of the year. However, given the concerns presented by the complainant, the operator was willing to their website with the current daily salinity levels. He also agreed to measure salinity levels in the distribution line, specifically at Harbor Water P.U.D office. I will forward the results to the complainant. Information was emailed to the complainant regarding fire retardants: - Effects of Wildfire Suppression Chemicals on People and the Environment. - Effects of Wildfire on Drinking Water Utilities and Best Practices for Wildfire Risk Reduction and Mitigation. |
