Details: | The City of Brookings has issued a precautionary boil order as a result of repair work in the distribution system that has caused total loss of pressure. 15 service connections have been affected around Mountain Drive Reservoir #2 (17294 Mountain Drive). All 15 connections have been notified through direct notification with door hangers.
Crew arrived on 9.19.2022 at about 4:30 pm to find a cable company had hit a 6” water main that feeds from Mountain Drive #1 Reservoir to Mountain Drive #2 Reservoirs. Mountain Drive #2 was emptied. The break was about 500 yards down from Mountain Drive #2 and about 5 feet underground. The crew dug up the area and made a repair to fix the line. The line was flushed through a fire hydrant that was about 100 yards above the break. Mountain Drive #2 Reservoir was refilled using pumps from Mountain Drive #1. Reservoir levels were normal by 12:20 AM 9.20.2022.
The system began notifying customers by 7:20 AM on 09.20.2022. A BacT sample was taken above the break at a new service meter. These sample was shipped to the Lab for analysis. Test results are expected by 09.22.2022. A second sample will be collected on 9.21.2022 with results back by 9.23.22. The system expects to lift the boil water advisory by 09.23.2022 at the earliest.
Lifted 09/22/2022: Tim Brush informed me that the boil water advisory was lifted on September 22. Samples collected on 09.20.22 and 09.22.22 came back absent of coliform contamination. |
