Details: | Since September 29th, high turbidity (cloudiness) is hindering the ability of the filters and UV reactor to effectively treat the water supply. On October 17, the system opted to bypass the strainrite filters. The UV reactor is still in operation, but the sensor indicates that the UV dose is below the minimum dose for bacterial inactivation.
The failure to provide treatment has triggered a boil advisory, but due to the water discoloration caused by tannins, the system has preferred a more conservative position. Customers and employees have been instructed to not use the tap water for drinking and cooking until further notice. All customers and employees have been notified to use bottled water available in the kitchen.
Plans are being made to purchase hauled water from a nearby public water system and store it in the clearwell.
Guidance was provided on how to disinfect and flush the system prior to sampling and lifting the public notice. Update 11/01/2022: Ty informed me that tomorrow they plan to purchase bulk water from Baimbridge Water LLC. The source used by this water hauling company is from Coos Bay North Bend water board PWS 00205. City water will be delivered directly into the storage tank. Ty will flush the storage tank and distribution system with the city water. Coliform samples will be collected and the boil advisory can be lifted once test results show absence of bacterial contamination in the distribution system. The system has received hands on assistance from RCAC and OAWU. Update 11/02/2022: Ty reported that they flushed the lines and are currently filling the tank with city water. chlorine was checked ad the EP and in the distribution system. At the EP and in the distribution chlorine level was at 1.2 ppm. Ty was instructed to purchase the chemical reagent to test for total chlorine. Chloramine concentration in the water is measured by checking total chlorine. The public notice will be lifted once the coliform test results confirm absence of bacterial contamination. Lifted 11/08/2022: Ty reported that the water sample test results came back absent of bacterial contamination. The boil water advisory was lifted today. No further actions needed. |
