| Details: | This morning Toledo discovered a cross-connection in their Distribution System to their seasonal 18" raw waterline, Mill Creek. It is presumed the construction project that connected to the untreated water line, and the coincident complaints of ‘stale water,’ occurred roughly one month ago. Low chlorine was discovered then, so chlorination, flushing and negative bacteriological sample results was assumed to solve the problem at the time. However, more indications today led to the discovery of the cross connection. It is unclear how much of the distribution was exposed to the untreated water, therefore a citywide boil order is being developed and distributed now.
After notifying customers, elevated chlorination and distribution system flushing, followed by bacteriological sampling will take place. (It is improbable all these activities can occur today, so it currently is presumed the boil order will last all weekend.)
