Details: | On 5/18/23 in the afternoon I was contacted by the property management company regarding Bigfoot Acres pws #01154. She reported that residents contacted her about a strong chemical smell noted in their drinking water that morning. There are reports of intentional contamination and the property owner has contacted Jackson County Sheriff’s Dept.
The property manager claimed that lab staff was sent to the site, to collect samples just prior to contacting me on this day. I met with the lab at the site and directed them to the correct sampling sites and took photos. I confirmed at that time, a strong diesel odor to the storage tank and the lower well. No odor was detected at the upper well which was confirmed with the lab staff. Samples were taken from each well and the storage tank. Sample results may be available tomorrow afternoon.
Communicated with a few residents while onsite. Instructed them to use the water for flushing toilets only, until test results could be confirmed. I am currently working with the owner and a contract pump company in developing a corrective action plan.
Lifted 05/25/2023: Received test results from the sample taken yesterday from the distribution system. Diesel and gasoline are listed as ND on the report. The lower well and storage tank continue to be cut off from the distribution system. Potable water will continue to be hauled in for consumption. |
