Details: | The City of Powers public works crew discovered a minor leak on a main water line on July 7. Over the weekend the break became larger and began to lose a significant amount of water. Due to the exacerbated leak and the impact to the water treatment plant, the public works crew initiated emergency repairs to a water main line today, July 12. A boil advisory was issued due to the loss of water pressure in the water distribution system during the emergency repairs of the main line. 19 customer connections in the following locations were affected by the loss of pressure:
• all water customers on Salmon Creek Road,
• all water customers on Railroad Avenue,
• 41934 South Powers Road,
• 270 2nd Avenue, 360 2nd Avenue, 350 2nd Avenue, 320 2nd Avenue,
• 309 3rd Avenue, 341 3rd Avenue.
The utility clerk called all affected customers, crew did door-to-door notification to customers that were not reached via phone. The system also notified the email subscriber list, media subscribers, shared to the local Facebook group and posted in local high-traffic areas (city hall, library, post office, and market). Public works are currently working on repairing the leak. Testing will be conducted before lifting the boil advisory. The water system expects to receive the all-clear notification from the lab no later than Monday, July 17.
No food service facilities, RV parks or other licensed facilities impacted. Language access was not required.
Lifted 07/15/2023: Stephanie Patterson, City Recorder, reported that follow up testing of the drinking water has returned results showing the absence of bacterial contamination. Customers notified. |
