Details: The water system collected its monthly coliform sample on 11/29/23 and it came back positive for E. coli. As the result was received on Friday 12/1/23, the system was unable to pull confirmation samples. The system is going on a voluntary boil notice and residents are being notified of the boil water. Three repeat samples and a triggered source sample will be sent in to the lab on Monday 12/4/23. Further action will be dependent on the sample results.

Update 12/06/2023:  Received results of follow-up samples. One tested present for E. coli and another tested present for total coliform, confirming the contamination in the distribution system. The boil advisory will remain in effect. Sent the boil public notice template to the city. The third required repeat sample was collected and shipped to the lab. Advised the distribution system be flushed and additional samples collected.

Update 12/08/2023:  Received verbal result that the repeat sample collected on 12/6/23 tested absent for coliform. The system was flushed and additional samples were collected on 12/7/23.

Update 12/09/2023:  Received verbal results of the samples collected on 12/7/23. One sample tested positive for E. coli and another sample tested positive for total coliform. The boil advisory to remain in effect.

Update 12/12/2023:  Staff from Port of Morrow are on site to assist with getting the existing but dormant hypochlorination system up and running. Replaced the old chemical feed pump with a new one. Two pallets of bottled water were delivered to the school. Additional water samples were collected. City Council met in the evening and decided to continue chlorinating the water system long term.

Update 12/13/2023:  Received results of the samples collected on 12/12/23. Two of the four samples tested absent for coliform, but one tested present for E. coli and one tested present for total coliform, so the boil advisory remains in effect. Met on site with city and Port of Morrow staff to conduct Level 2 coliform investigation. Chlorine was detectable in the primary storage reservoir and the Emert subdivision booster pump station but not yet in the main part of town. The distribution system will be flushed tomorrow to draw chlorinated water from the reservoir into the main part of town and additional samples collected.

Lifted 12/15/2023:  Received results of samples collected on 12/14/23 after a chlorine residual was established throughout the distribution system. All samples tested absent for coliform bacteria, allowing the boil advisory to be lifted.
