Details: | The operator informed me that customers were placed on a boil water advisory due to treatment failure. The system is having problems with the flocculation process. Jar test shows flock formation, but there is no floc forming in the tank. High turbidity water entered the distribution system. All customers, including the two food service facilities in town, were notified prior to the event. No schools impacted by the boil water advisory. The incident began at 5:00 pm on 01.22.2024 and ended on 01.23.2024 at around 5:00 pm. During the event, raw water turbidity was at 15-18 NTU. Settled turbidity was at 9 NTU and filter effluent turbidity between 1.0 NTU and 4.0 NTU. Flow rate was set between 10-20 gpm. Approximately 12,000 gallons of high NTU water entered the distribution system. 8,000 gallons were used for backwash. Free chlorine residual at the entry point recorded at 2.1 ppm, pH at 6.56 and water temp at 12.0 Celsius. Update 01/24/2024: The operator reported that the issue with the flocculator has been resolved. The system is currently producing water at 0.06 NTU. The operator will finish flushing the system today and water samples will be collected prior to lifting the boil advisory. Update 01/30/2024: The operator informed me that water samples have been collected. Lab coliform test results expected tomorrow. Lifted 02/01/2024: The operator informed me that the system was flushed on Jan 28 and a coliform sample was collected on Jan 29. Lab result came back absent of coliform contamination. The boil was lifted today. |
