Details: | On January 29th, the Shaniko Water System experienced a malfunction and a low-pressure event. The water was turned off until repairs could be made to reestablish pressure. A precautionary boil water advisory is in effect until the water can be tested and determined safe for drinking. Potable drinking water has been distributed to residents by the Wasco County Emergency Manager. Update 02/01/2024: The operator estimates a few additional days to repair the pump. Emergency water supplies are available for residents. Update 02/05/2024: The operator has a pump on order which may take 5-10 days to receive. Residents have been informed that a new shower trailer has been delivered today and can be accessed behind the fire department. Additionally, approximately 70 cases of drinking water and a water buffalo containing non-potable water are available. Update 02/13/2024: A temporary water pump has been installed to provide non-potable water to residents. Pallets of potable drinking water continue to be available to residents. Update 02/22/2024: The operator has successfully installed the new pump, flushed the lines, and submitted special water samples to the laboratory for water quality testing. Lifted 02/23/2024: The water quality results are coliform-absent. The water advisory is lifted and the water is restored to the community. |
