04.04.24-Nicholas, with the City of Independence public works contacted the phone duty line to inform that around 8:30 a.m. today, they had a contractor hit an 8-in AC service line. Pressure was reduced in some areas to 5 PSI. This was not a total loss of pressure event, but as a precaution, the city opted to post a boil water advisory. Customers have been notified via social media. Polk county environmental health has also been notified. Additional notification for Spanish speaking population will follow. A Boil-water advisory template in Spanish was provided via email. Staff is onsite working on the break, and they expect to complete the repairs later today. At least two special samples will be collected. The boil-water advisory is expected to be lifted tomorrow, once sample results return showing absence of bacterial contamination. Lifted 04/05/2024: Operator emailed with the following details: The water was restored to the last resident yesterday, April 4th at 3:45pm, we took two additional samples, one upstream and one downstream of the repaired mainline in an area that we had isolated when the shut down occurred. In addition, while repairs were being made in the isolated area, we blew off hydrants and blow offs at multiple locations, sampled for chlorine and took 4 different samples at the north, south, east and west ends of our system. All of the samples came back clear, are attached and the boil water notice was lifted this afternoon, April 5th. Operator provided the results the notice was lifted on the 5th. |
