Details: | The Rowena Wildfire, which began on 6/11/25, has impacted the Tooley Water District. The operator confirmed that the power has been cut to the lower well, The upper well lost power, but power has been restored. It is anticipated that there will be repairs needed for the system to operate. These assessments will begin on Monday 6/16/25. Operator estimates 50 percent of district homes have been destroyed by the fire. Area is still under Level 3 Evacuation. Operator will post the Do Not Drink notice on the website. Once residents are able to return to the area, the operator will communicate the advisory to community members. NCPHD will coordinate with partners to provide assistance, including access to potable water.
Update: Emailed operator instructions for testing required in order to lift the advisory: coliforms, nitrate, and VOCs. Also included additional resources for fire impacted areas and circuit rider contact information.
Update 07/02/2025: The operator confirmed receipt of the VOC sample kits and stated that sampling is scheduled for 7/3/25. Update 07/28/2025: OHA confirmed with the operator that resampling for post-fire VOCs will occur on 8/6. Lifted 07/30/2025: Initial VOC sample results 7/15 from DEQ lab. Results showed a few TTHM (DBP) detections, but none exceeded the MCL or HAL. Cyclohexyl methyl phthalic acid, was identified in sample #2, at 0.0252mg/L, and is a tentatively identified compound (TIC). This is not a regulated VOC, so there is no associated MCL or HAL.The data suggest the presence of a compound containing a phthalate group, the identification remains uncertain, and confidence in the exact compound match is limited. DWS recommended that Tooleys Operator (Hiland Water) take a VOC re-sample to lift the DND advisory (scheduled for early Aug). Operator decided to lift the DND advisory ahead of receiving the resample results since the TOC has no associated MCL. |
