Details: A city-wide boil water notice is being issued for the City of Sheridan due to a waterline break that occurred at the treatment plant near reservoir #3, causing them to lose their ability to serve water for the entire City of Sheridan. Crews have the waterline isolated, and they believe that they can bypass the reservoir 3 and use reservoir 2 which receives water from the spring sources to restore water pressure and service to the city. They also believe they can use the Balston reservoir until repairs are made to the broken line which at this time, they do not know how long this will take. City Hall is getting a mass media message out to all residents at the City of Sheridan of the events that are in progress containing the information to not drink the water and letting all know that the event is catastrophic with an unknown time frame for repairs to be completed.

Update 12/19/2025:  I called to make sure Kie Cottam (971-241-9528) at 12:24 PM (they have had internet issues). He said that bottled water was being distributed and they had Tim Gross, PE with Civil West Engineers and Dave Running, PE, GE from Foundation Engineering on site to assess the landslide and are digging test pits around the reservoirs (they were not sure if they should fill them at this point). He said they have been cleared to work in a limited area. They are working to get a part of the pipeline repaired to be able to supply the city with water and if all goes well, he said they should have the temporary repair done in 8-hrs, flush and take coliform samples tomorrow, and then be back online by Monday. They put the Balston reservoir in service.

Update 12/19/2025:  Engineers and contractors are on site. The plan is to have a temporary fix with the bypass on the spring reservoir to get water to the city. Currently they have pumps on at the Ballston reservoir supplying a limited supply to the city. The plan is to get this online today sometime and they have a few coming in tomorrow to flush the system through the city. Monday morning, they plan to take samples from the 3 entry points Spring, plant and town reservoir along with all 11 sample sites that they use for routine samples. Two of those sample sites are at the end of distribution. They plan on keeping the boil water notice through the weekend and into next week.

Update 12/21/2025:  Brandon Owings with the City of Sheridan emailed Saturday at 12:18 PM providing a copy of the public notice. As of 7:30 am on Sunday, 12-21-25, the citys website (https://www.cityofsheridanor.com/) also has a notice that the boil remains in effect and requesting people conserve water. Brandons email from Saturday indicated that they had the part of the break repaired with the spring line bypass and they are filling all the reservoirs. They will be flushing the system Sunday (12-21-25) and taking samples Monday morning. Tank 1 is now back online recording chlorine disinfectant residuals. The springs are classified as groundwater sources and chlorinated for residual maintenance.

Update 12/22/2025:  Brandon Owings with the City of Sherdan reported in at 9:26 am today (12/22). • Boil notice is still in effect. • Sheridan will be taking samples to the lab today by about noon (note - it takes at least 18-hrs to get results back, so they will be on a boil water notice until at least late morning tomorrow (12/23). • They still have about 7 pallets of bottled water left for distribution to residents. • Sheridan Federal Correctional Institution had water service restored yesterday (12/21) - bottled water is being served in the interim as the boil notice is still in effect per KGW report last d at 5:45 am this morning (12/22/25).

Update 12/22/2025:  12/22/2025 1:15 PM Brandon Owings with the City of Sheridan reported coliform samples have been collected and sent to the lab for analysis. The lab will let the operator know verbally of the results and the operator will follow up with the report.

Lifted 12/23/2025:  At 12:51 PM Brandon Owings notified DWS that they had verbal confirmation from the lab that the coliform sample results were absent of bacteria and that they were lifting the boil water advisory.
