Details: | it was reported in the media that Amity was completely out of water. I called Mark Monday morning, and he said they had a problem at the plant, then a large water leak, then the storm lead to power outages. these multiple problems lead to not being able to produce water at the plant. No improperly treated water went into the system. They are working on getting the plant back on line and hope to do so in the next day or so. A boil advisory will be issued, though current reports are that no one has water. once back on, they will flush through blow-offs and hydrants, re-establish chlorine residual, and collect at least 5 coliform samples. The boil advisory can be lifted if all are negative and water is properly treated. Update 10/23/2017: The public notice initially posted online and door to door was 4 pages of true emergency water usage information with confusing information. Kari at DWS provided them with DWSs template and the city administrator said he would get that on their facebook page and also deliver it door to door. They expect to restore full pressure and sample Tuesday morning and get results back Wednesday 10/25. Lifted 10/25/2017: By Tuesday, the City had restored treatment by noon Monday (10/23), flushing by 3 pm Monday, system pressures and chlorine residuals by Tuesday (10/24) morning, and all testing results from sampling completed on 10/24 demonstrated an absence of Coliform bacteria, therefore, the notice was lifted at 9:15 am on Oct 25th 2017. Water use restrictions barring outside watering remain in place while reservoirs are filled to normal operating levels and will ly remain in effect until Friday (Oct 27th). |
