Details: | The water system recently went through an inspection that revealed operational issues with the Green sand filtration system that is meant to keep nuisance compounds (iron and manganese) out of the drinking water. Though not a health risk, the Forest Service recommends not drinking the campground water because it may contain elevated levels of iron and/or manganese. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) lists iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) as secondary contaminants due to color, taste, and odor issues, and possible staining of fixtures and porcelain. Boiling, freezing, or disinfecting the water will not remove the iron and manganese. The campground management is currently collecting samples, performing maintenance, and troubleshooting the treatment and filtration of the water system. When the treatment system is fully operational and test results are within guidelines for nuisance contaminants we will open the system back up fully and post a notice at this location.
Lifted 10/22/2020: 10.23.20 - The iron and manganese filtration system at Quosatana has been returned to fully automatic mode and has been functioning well for the last 3 weeks or so. The discoloration of the water that prompted the water system to temporarily limit use of the system has also cleared. Test results reported on Oct 7 came back negative for Coliform contamination. As of yesterday the operator reopened the system and will remove the water advisory posted and dated 9/30. |
