Details: | Due to the 2020 wildfires that resulted in extensive damage to Detroits water infrastructure and potential VOCs in burned distribution piping the city has issued a Do Not Drink Advisory for all customers. Currently, raw water is filling distribution piping and there is no filtration or disinfection. This water is non-potable. Detroit has posted the advisory on its website, Facebook page and will distribute flyers to customers.
The City is working with HBH Engineering, DEQ, DWS and others to sample for VOCs at burned connections and to bring in a temporary water treatment plant while a permanent solution is being established.
The flyer link is here: http://detroitoregon.us/wordpress_c/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/DETROIT-Water-Info-Sheet-3.5.2021.pdf Update 04/20/2021: HBH Engineering and City of Detroit received negative coliform sample results that were conducted the week of April 12th. The City and engineers have issued a Do Not Drink Advisory for customers with burnt service connections, the City has posted a special notification to those home owners about acceptable water uses. Undamaged properties are being supplied with potable water without any use restrictions, save for conservation measures. The City and HBH Engineering have installed a new temporary membrane filtration system that is keeping up with the current customer demand and are working to complete a permanent facility to house the new water treatment plant. Lifted 06/24/2022: All fire damage to services has been addressed, and no health risks remain in the system. We have restored access to water for all properties in the City, though not all previous customers have requested activation yet. |
