Details: | Today phone contact was made with both the owner and operator regarding the water sample from the 4th quarter of 2021 that came in at 8.1, which is over half the MCL of 10. As the nitrate results are coming in consistently over half the MCL and increasing for the last 3 years, and the system has not been through quarterly nitrate in 10 years, the system is now on quarterly. It understood that the system must sample for nitrate the next three consecutive quarters in order to determine that there is no seasonal issues that would cause nitrate levels to exceed the MCL. 1/14/21 After speaking with Brad Daniels of OHA, I was advised that this system is not required to go on quarterly nitrate sampling as the sample did not exceed the MCL and the history of the system does not indicate samples beyond the MCL. He specified that there is no need to switch to quarterly and that the rules do not require the switch to quarterly based upon the system's history. I contacted the system and retracted my previous contact in that I advised them to just sample annually as usual. |
