Details: | Background/Problem Identification: Mike Price of Red Hills Estates reached out to the circuit rider requesting assistance with controlling the operation of their two wells. Assistance Provided: The circuit rider spoke to Mike on the phone and exchanged several emails. Mike indicated that their primary problem was the lack of control over the operation of the two wells. The problem is compounded in the summer months when the demands on the wells are high. RHE is looking to control the water system more effectively by potentially integrating a PLC/SCADA system that integrates all of the water system components. The circuit rider reviewed maps provided by RHE and a narrative of the current operation of the system and made the following suggestions: •Reconfigure the wells to have both pumping straight to the cisterns (remove the lower well’s direct connection to distribution) •Distribution system be pressurized by the service pumps/pressure tanks downstream of the cisterns •SCADA logic would operate based on the water levels in the cisterns •Operate the two wells in an alternating “lead-lag” configuration where the pumps “take turns” being the first pump to turn on when called for by the low-level float •During seasonal periods of high demand, run both wells at the same time to fill the cisterns The circuit rider further suggested reaching out to a SCADA/Systems Integration specialist to discuss options for reconfiguring the system. Follow-Up Actions Needed: Circuit rider is available to assist further as needed. |
