Details: | A confirmation sample collected 4/4/22 as part of the OHA-DWS PFAS Sampling Project showed PFOS at 16.3 ppt and PFHxS at 12.5 ppt at entry point A (EP-A). The confirmation sample results are almost identical to the original sample results and the sum of the two detection is 28.8 ppt which is below Oregon's 30 ppt drinking water health advisory level (HALs) for PFOS, PFOA, PFNA, and PFHxS (individually or combined). Since neither the original or confirmation sample results exceeded the health advisory level, OHA recommends sharing the results with customers, including results in the annual Consumer Confidence Report, and testing the drinking water for PFAS periodically. Although the sum of the concentrations of PFOS and PFHxS does not exceed the 30 ppt Oregon drinking water health advisory level, it’s really close to exceeding it. Given that, and the fact that EPA is expected to propose a low drinking water maximum contaminant level for PFOS by the end of this year, I recommended starting to think about some kind of corrective action (connecting to another public water system, developing a new drinking water source, or installing treatment to remove PFAS). A letter and the sample results were mailed to the water system on 5/13/22 and emailed on 5/16/22. |
