Details: | Gary said that Rich Reiss has retired. I had sent a couple emails to Rich with no reply. The emails were about repeating the lead and copper and alkalinity monitoring during the winter months when they were using the Rink Creek water source. Rink Creek has the more corrosive water (noticeably lower pH and alkalinity) of their two non-overlapping sources. Their only exceedance was for copper on the Rink Creek water (back in 1993), never any when using the Coquille River source. We had asked them this year to monitor for alkalinity in conjunction with their lead and copper monitoring in order to establish a minimum alkalinity level for their treated water, similar to the minimum pH set in the past. Gary said he had seen my email about this and that they plan to repeat the lead and copper and alkalinity monitoring in late winter this year when on the Rink Creek source, perhaps in February. As part of the upcoming water system survey, I hope to change the schedule so that the lead and copper monitoring is always conducted when using the Rink Creek source, the more corrosive one. This will no doubt cause confusion over time because it is the opposite of what everyone else does for lead and copper (summer monitoring), but in this case it only makes sense to monitor the water that had once caused an exceedance. |
