Details: | Emailed Ray a monthly form on which they will document and report that their Viqua Pro 50 UV reactor is meeting the GWR source water treatment requirements (for 4-log viral inactivation) each month. Ray phoned to verify that no daily visual monitoring is required for this UV unit. I double checked with DWS engineer Jay MacPherson, who confirmed that no daily visual monitoring is needed for this unit outside of the built-in alarm/shut down. Jay then forwarded me an email in which he had previously explained how their configuration prevents inadequate treatment by shutting down entirely. Assurance factors include: the challenge test of this UV unit, its flow restrictor (which prevents the water from moving too fast for an adequate UV dose) and the automatic shut-off if the light device is operating out of specification (e.g., insufficient light intensity). The unit either operates within specifications (which are arguably equivalent to meeting CT in chlorine disinfection) or the unit does not let water flow, which is required by OAR -0032(3)(b)(B). That email was saved in the electronic file folder for this system. |
