Details: | Lonny called DWS yesterday and follow-up call made today regarding turbidity reaching 0.44 NTU. With the boil notice occurring in October, this value over 0.3 NTU will not result in a treatment technique violation unless another occurs before the end of November. The day-to-day operator, Dustin, has resigned due to the time commitments of this PWS, and Lonny cannot afford the time himself. So he is resigning as DRC. It is possible that John Woody will take over as operator and DRC. Lonny is still willing to assist in tuning in this treatment system, he just can't do it as a regular commitment. One observation is that at reduced flow, the static mixer (being close to the coagulant injection point) may not work as designed (flow goes from turbulent to laminar). This can result in insufficient flocculation before the filters and floc formation after filtration. This may be a partial cause of the elevated turbidity readings. Adding a contact chamber (e.g. 100 to 300 gallons) might improve flocculation and pressure filter efficiency. |
