Details: | OERS incident report on 12.08.22 OERS Informed DWS via phone duty line that on Dec 8, the city of Myrtle Point reported a release of 136,500 gallons of partially treated sewage to the Coquille River at 13:00. This was due to a wash out through the UV channel. There were high rains in the area. Sewage was 98% water. The release stopped at 16:30. The city of Coquille water system was contacted. One of their sources (SRC-AB) is approximately 10 river- miles downstream from 220 River Rd and could have been impacted. I contacted Coquille PWS operator, Mark Denning. Mark reported that due to low seasonal rainfall, and the city’s desire to allow the reservoir to “turn over” before we start using it, the water system switched from the river source to the reservoir source very late this year. However, as providence would have it, this switch took place on the morning of Dec 8. Based on the reported timing of this incident, it appears that the Coquille water supply should see no effects from this release. No further actions needed. |
