Details: | Background/Problem Identification: The circuit rider was contacted by Gregg Baird who had received information that chlorine residual and “crystals” were found in raw water samples that had been sent to DEQ for cyanobacteria testing. Gregg had requested that the circuit rider return to BRP and run further testing for free chlorine on the raw water, this time with using the HACH Potassium Iodide/Sodium Arsenite treatment method. Pretreating the sample isolates manganese/chromium so that the meter is only showing a reading for manganes/chromium and NOT free chlorine, as the pre-treatment locks up the free chlorine. Assistance Provided: The circuit rider tested a non-treated raw sample for free chlorine and the meter read 0.11 mg/l. The sample pre-treated with Potassium Iodide/Sodium Arsenite read 0.08 mg/L on the meter. The readings suggest that there is 0.08 mg/L of manganese/chromium in the raw water. We feel the 0.03 mg/L remainder is likely not free chlorine due to the raw water source and may be cause by another interference. Follow-Up Actions Needed: The circuit rider can assist further as needed. Technical Reports to be Prepared and Expected Timeframe: N/A |
