Details: | Alert LCRE32251-01.10.2023 Liz was contacted via email on Jan 10, 2023. I requested more details on the causes for the recent alkalinity excursions on Dec 12 and 14, 2022. Liz reported the 2 excursions in December occurred while 2 of the operators were away at the OAWU Hood River Conferences. One of the labs in question (14th) was taken while the plant was shut down. The plant was shut down from 7:25 am to 11:00am, but the labs were taken at 10:00. It is normal practice for the operator to perform labs while the plant is in operation, doing so provides more accurate results. Looking at the logs for the 12th, the corrective action needed to bring up our alkalinity was to adjust the soda ash feed and retake the alkalinity lab and re-adjust as necessary. This action was never taken. However, it adjusted itself the following day. Normally, if the operator notices a rare possible excursion in the results, the operator will retake the sample just to make sure that nothing went wrong during the lab process, often times this yields acceptable results. It is also a standard practice to continue to retake labs until we have stabilized any issue with chemical adjustments, which was not done on either day. We have since retrained the operators involved in this incident to be more vigilant in detecting and taking action with regard to excursions or any other plant abnormality. No further actions needed. |
