Details: | Background/Problem Identification: The circuit rider was contacted by Andrew Soethe of the Oneys Restaurant/Lounge water system to assist with an ongoing issue they are having with coliform in distribution. Assistance Provided: The circuit rider visited the site and worked with Andrew and Erin Soethe to troubleshoot their recent coliform issues. The chlorination dosing pump was an older model diaphragm style LMI. Andrew indicated that in the several years that he has owned the facility, that the pump had never been rebuilt. It is possible that the pump is worn and needs to be replaced or rebuilt to ensure consistent dosing. The operator was also using a 1:1 mix of water to sodium hypochlorite and said that this mixture would last many months in the daytank before needing to be refilled. At this mix ratio, there is likely significant degradation of the hypochlorite mixture over time. We recommend using a more dilute mixture closer 10:1 to avoid such degradation. Free chlorine residual measured >2.20 mg/L at the WTP and 0.56 mg/L at the restaurant bathroom sink. This may either be due to demand in distribution, or possibly inconsistent dosing due to the worn pump. Follow-Up Actions Needed: The circuit rider is available to assist further as needed.
