I contacted Mark Denning with the City of Coquille Public Works. I notified Mark of the resent OERS incident report that was received today via our DWS phone duty line.

Incident description: The City of Myrtle Point released approximately 30,000 gallons of sewage into the Coquille River. The release occurred on February 5, at around 13:04 and stopped at 14:12. This was due to a washout caused by heavy flow. The surface water intake for the City of Coquille is the only intake downstream form the spill that could potentially be affected – see map.

Mark reported that they had not been notified, but the system is not impacted. During this time of the year the system is pulling water from a different reservoir. The timing of the switchover to the river source depends on both river water quality and reservoir capacity, but it usually happens in the middle of June.

The City of Myrtle Point was later contacted and advised to report future incidents in a timelier manner to Coquille Public Works. Mark Denning's contact number was provided.
