Details: | Background/Problem Identification: Woodland MHP had reached out to the circuit rider for further assistance regarding the chlorine residual and operational issues at Woodland. The circuit rider identified several possible operational issues. Assistance Provided: The circuit rider made a site visit and identified the following issues: 1.There is a bypass around the ion exchange resin. The raw water was measuring 134 TDS with the treated water at 127 TDS. We recommend the bypass be shut off. 2.The system should consider adding a chlorination point post-filtration or moving the existing chlorination post-filtration. This would work best if the greensand filter was using KMnO4 as the oxidant instead of the sodium hypochlorite it is currently using. 3.The system should consider increasing their chlorine dosage. Greensand filters typically need to have 0.5 – 1.0 mg/L free chlorine effluent to be working correctly. 4.It may be prudent to replumb the system so that the ion exchange filters are upstream of the greensand filters, so that the greensand filter’s free chlorine effluent is not “burning” through the ion exchange resin. This would also help keep the free chlorine up in the reservoirs and distribution. 5.Woodland should investigate using RO or distilled water for their mix in the chlorine daytank. There have been issues with precipitates forming in the daytank when using treated water for the daytank mix. Follow-Up Actions Needed: The circuit rider can provide further follow-up assistance if needed. |
