Details: | Background/Problem Identification: The circuit rider was contacted by Gregg Baird who had received information that chlorine residual and “crystals” were found in raw water samples that had been sent to DEQ for cyanobacteria testing. Assistance Provided: The circuit rider made a site visit on September 2nd, 2022 and found that there may be backflow from the WTP and turbidity meter at the raw water tap if the raw water pumps are not operating. Circuit rider suggested that the raw water pumps always should be running and for several minutes prior to pulling a raw water sample from this raw water sampling location. Further, the circuit rider proposed that the apparent free chlorine residual is likely due to a positive interference with the DPD reagent used in the free chlorine test. Manganese is one of the prime elements (there are many) that may cause a false positive for free chlorine with a DPD reagent test kit. Follow-Up Actions Needed: The circuit rider can come back out and test to eliminate the possibility of Mn interference if desired. Technical Reports to be Prepared and Expected Timeframe: N/A |
