Details: | Background/Problem Identification: The circuit rider (CR) was contacted by OHA &requested to assist with assessment of the source & storage systems with respect to construction to exclude surface water, & possibility of installing continuous disinfection. Assistance Provided: The CR visited the water system on 7/29/22 to assess water system, specifically source & storage systems.Indicated by Christine Chambreau, latest (07/10/22) coliform sampling on the source was negative. Sampling in distribution five days (07/05/22) prior was positive. The CR noted were many unscreened entrances to storage tanks &recommended be cleaned & screened. Although the most recent test was negative for coliform in the spring source, the spring source does have a history of positive coliform tests. The CR discussed potential methods to meet new OVS treatment requirements with the water system. One option for treatment was the addition of bag/cartridge filtration (Harmsco Hurricane H-170 or equivalent) to sub-micron levels coupled with a Dosatron chlorinator. There is no power at spring source or storage area, & unless power run to the area, a bag/cartridge filter & Dosatron system would likely be the only means to comply with the OVS treatment without power. If the water system was willing to install treatment closer to an existing source of power, but still on the transmission main between the storage tanks and the distribution system, a UV system and powered chlorination system could be employed. For this alternative, we recommend installing a UV system and chlorination to comply with OVS regulations. The UV system shall meet NSF Standard 55, and be Class A. The Viqua Pro30 UVMax system would satisfy the OVS treatment requirement.Recommend a 30gpm unit installed w/flow restrictor to limit the flow to <30 gpm. Residual maintenance disinfection can be achieved using a flow-paced dosing pump/meter ie the Stenner Econ-FP series system. We recommend a small mixing pulsed injections. |
