Details: | Background/Problem Identification: OHA reached out to the circuit rider indicating that NVES needed further assistance with their on-going DBP issues. Assistance Provided: The circuit rider assisted by reaching out to Logan Kellow to discuss several issues contributing to the recent DBP exceedance. Logan said the system has struggled with maintaining a consistent free chlorine residual. The circuit rider suggested that to start with, the system should lower their free chlorine residual as low as possible and still maintain the efficacy of the greensand filtration for removing iron and manganese. The circuit rider spent considerable time working with the WTP’s engineer and the vendor of the proprietary greensand product to determine if an alternate oxidant could be used. There is the potential for using KMnO4 as the regenerative oxidant for the greensand filter with residual free chlorine injected post filtration. The vendor said that this was acceptable with their product. The water system said that they were working to hire a third party to run their water system and that any further troubleshooting would likely be between the circuit rider and that third party. Follow-Up Actions Needed: The circuit rider is available as needed for follow-up assistance as needed with the new operator. Technical Reports to be Prepared and Expected Timeframe: N/A |
