Details: | I spoke to Dan Fraijo, operations manager for the water system, about the manganese result of 450 ug/L (0.450 mg/L) collected from SRC-BA Well #2 West on 9/24/18 and reported to us on 12/6/18 under the unregulated contaminant monitoring rule (UCMR4). He said the water from this well is not being served to customers. I was able to confirm this the next day with Tim Jannsen, water system manager. Water from this well is not being served to customers and hasn't been for several years. They use this well to inject water into the aquifer for recharge and would only recover water (pump out) from the well in an emergency. The samples for UCMR4 are collected from pump-to-waste water (water does not go out to customers during sampling). Manganese is not a regulated contaminant, but EPA has issued health advisory levels for it. We discussed the EPA one and ten day acute exposure health advisory level (HAL) of 1 mg/L and the lifetime chronic exposure HAL of 0.3 mg/L. EPA advises that the lifetime HAL of 0.3 mg/L be used for a ten day acute exposure for infants under 6 months. I sent him the EPA Manganese HAL document to review. This well will be sampled again for UCMR4 in March 2019. |
