Details: Background/Problem Identification:

Ron Jensen of Rufus Public Works reached out to the circuit rider to request further assistance in obtaining funding to have an under-performing well assessed.

Assistance Provided:

The circuit rider spoke with both Ron Jensen of The City of Rufus and GSI Water Solutions about the under-performing well (SHER50113/L45724) and potential remedies for the diminished capacity of the well. GSI reviewed recent well cleaning reports and felt that the cleaning methods employed would at best yield only minor, temporary increases in the well’s production rate. The well was drilled in 2001 and has since diminished in output from ~200 gpm to the present 42 gpm. The circuit rider reached back out to GSI Water Solutions for a cost estimate for a more thorough cleaning of the well. The estimated cost was over $100,000, but not a firm number, as GSI would need to investigate the well to determine the appropriate method for cleaning. The City indicated that they would absolutely need to get funding for services in the six-figure range. GSI further proposed to do a well condition evaluation in lieu of the full-blown cleaning process to determine the condition of the well and to give a better picture of what the well cleaning or possible replacement would cost. The condition evaluation was estimated to cost $14K and should be within the financial capacity of the City without pursuing funding.
